Prayer - Part 1
Jesus set the example to pray. He went out often to pray.
Ex: Matthew 14:23, 26:36; Mark 6:46, 1:35; Luke 6:12, 9:28, 5:16, 22:41
Jesus set a great example of needing to get away and pray. Prayer is needed – we need to share with God all about ourselves so that God can act.
Why Pray? Phillipians 4:6-7 (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Can you think of a better reason to pray? Freedom from anxiety! A confidant in whom you can share absolutely everything with! That is what God wants us to do = share all our life with God.
Jesus gave us an example to follow – you know it as “The Lord’s Prayer”:
- Matthew 6:9-13 – you should find it.
- Luke 11:2-4 – is another example of the prayer.
You can use it as an example for your prayers:
- Praise God, recognize who/what God is
- Thank God
- Request your essential needs (food, clothing, shelter)
- Request forgiveness, forgive others
- Guidance
Help with prayer – Romans 8:26 – we have the Holy Spirit here to help us.
How often to pray? – I Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I hope these notes help you with the video today.
Have a good week!
