Cellphones vs the Bible
by Alyce.
A friend forwarded this to me. I liked it. It reminds me of trying to get people to read the Bible daily. It isn’t an easy task. Read it:
Cell phone vs Bible
Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it? What if we gave it to Kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency? This is something to make you go … hmm … where is my Bible? Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill. Makes you stop and think where my priorities are? And no dropped calls!
I thought about this and wanted to add some things. I only have a cell phone, since it is cost effective to only have one phone as opposed to a “land line” at home and the cell phone for emergencies.
But here are some thoughts I wanted to share like, by carrying my Bible around like a cellphone:
- I would be paying insurance to make sure nothing happened to it and to guarantee a replacement if lost of stolen or hurt in any way.
- When I am bored, I would pull out my Bible and find pleasure and a distraction to help pass the time – isn’t that why we have games on our cell phones? I like the thought-challenging games – thus my Bible would challenge me to stretch my mind and keep me mentally sharp.
- As mentioned above, I would not be without my Bible. And if I didn’t have it, I would feel lost and search for it constantly.
- As I learned more about my Bible, I would want to upgrade it to a better model with more options (i.e.: going from a reading Bible to a study Bible). And then add options – instead of getting one with a camera and internet – we would get study guides and other study material so that we would be ready for different problems that may arise.
Yes, think of all the ways you use a cell phone daily. If it were your connection to God, your Bible, and your prayers – would you use it as much? Cell phones our connection to the world; our Bibles, our connection to God. I am on a mission – to get everyone to read their Bibles and become so familiar with the words it contains, that they can respond to all challenges by the powers against God by quoting scripture.
Jesus in Matthew 4 goes out and is tempted by Satan (a power against God). Satan quoted scriptures, but Jesus was very familiar with the scriptures and was able to counter with the true meaning of God’s word and repel 3 attacks. Satan gave up and left. Now I don’t want you to think Satan gave up, Satan never gives up, and the powers against God just try other methods to get to us. The only way Jesus succeeded to the cross for God was by ALWAYS carrying the Bible with him. Jesus had a cell phone connection with God (a direct connection).
So have you all been reading? Did you know that you are supposed to take 2 minutes every time you brush your teeth to ensure their cleanliness? Did you know reading 10 verses of scripture a day takes less than 2 minutes a day? I timed it and I purposely read slowly. So if you are willing to spend at least 2 minutes a day brushing your teeth – are you willing to spend that much time getting to know about God?
Yes I will keep challenging you. Please feel free to post comments.
