Matthew 1

Wow, I encourage everyone to read daily.  I even say let’s start with Matthew.  Well, I have read Matthew 1.  I must admit the first 17 verses were rather easy to read.  The genealogy of Christ thru Joseph, his earthly father was able to go back 42 generations.  WOW, I can’t even go back 14 generations on either side of my family tree.  Going back 14 generations would take me back to Cherokee Indians before America was invaded by anyone that hung around and it would take me back to England and Germany.  These roots I know for sure.  BUT I can’t go back 14 generations.  I don’t even have any good stories that were passed down thru the generations. I know that at least one ancestor fought with George Washington in the revolutionary war.  I also know that some were involved in the American Civil War (some on both sides). Yes I know lots of bits and pieces, but not enough to trace back my family even 14 generations.

We live in a different time.  Family histories don’t seem as important these days.  My father and my mother’s brothers fought in World War II.  BUT none of them would talk about it.  Killing people wasn’t something anyone was proud of.  It was a necessity of war. Now, war happens in Chicago neighborhoods so much that people don’t even bother calling the police if they hear gun shots.  What a sad story and state that is!

Then there was hope at the end of the chapter.  Jesus’ earthly parents get together and stay together; even thou Mary is pregnant with a child that isn’t Joseph’s.  Jesus is to be born and raised by this chosen family.

I don’t know if I was a mistake or a planned child, but I do know that my family was chosen to raise me and love me and instill principles within me that I still live by today.  I wish all children had as responsible parents that I had.  I know not ever child is so blessed.  I don’t know why, I don’t even try to guess why.  I just pray that every child comes to know the most responsible being that shares unconditional love with everyone – God and Jesus.  I pray the Holy Spirit will come to live in everyone, then, if we listen to the Spirit, peace shall come to this land.  For there is never any killing when love is present!
